Overview
Mead Honey Wine Making EXPERIENCE
Discover Inishturk at a natural, unhurried pace through this immersive Mead Making & Honey Tasting Experience with Dr. Sean O’Connor of the Inishturk Native Honeybee Sanctuary and Wild Atlantic Mead.
Designed to suit all interests and experience levels, this relaxed yet enriching experience invites you to slow down and connect deeply with Inishturk’s landscape, biodiversity, and ancient traditions. Guided by Dr. O’Connor, participants are introduced to the story of the island’s native honeybees, the importance of their conservation, and the long Atlantic heritage of mead making.
The experience combines guided learning with hands-on participation. You’ll explore honey production and traditional and modern mead-making techniques before taking part in a curated tasting of distinctive island honeys and Wild Atlantic Mead. Each participant will then make their own mead, guided step by step through the process using high-quality island honey. You’ll leave with a 4.5-litre bottle of your own mead to take home, allowing the fermentation journey to continue long after your visit.
With time to ask questions, savour flavours, and enjoy the island’s calm rhythm, this experience blends education, sensory discovery, and place-based storytelling. It offers an authentic way to engage with Inishturk’s natural heritage and sustainable practices—resulting in both lasting memories and a truly personal taste of the island.
