Board of Inishturk Island

Our BOARD

The Board of Inishturk Community Club CLG

The Board of Inishturk Community Club CLG is a voluntary group of island residents who provide governance, strategic oversight, and leadership for the long-term sustainability of Inishturk. This is a key governance role at a particularly exciting stage in the organisation’s development. Inishturk is moving decisively from long-term planning into the active delivery of a range of significant community, infrastructure, environmental, and enterprise projects. With multiple initiatives underway and a strong pipeline of future development, the organisation is entering a period of real momentum and impact.

Rooted in the community and elected by shareholders, the Board works to ensure that all initiatives reflect the needs and values of the island, safeguard its unique character, and create positive opportunities for current and future generations.

Governance & Leadership

The Board is responsible for:

  • Setting the strategic direction of the organisation
  • Ensuring strong governance, accountability, and transparency
  • Overseeing compliance, funding, and financial stewardship
  • Supporting sustainable social, economic, cultural, and environmental development
  • Acting in the best interests of the island community as a whole

The Board operates under a shared Co-Chair model, with two Board Co-Chairs working collaboratively to provide continuity, balance, and shared leadership. Formal Board meetings are held quarterly online, supported by informal monthly update meetings to maintain continuity across governance and delivery. In-person meetings take place periodically, approximately every six months, to support deeper strategic discussion, relationship-building, and engagement with key developments on the island.

While the Board retains overall governance responsibility, day-to-day operations and project delivery are led by the Development Manager and staff team.

Building the Future of Inishturk

Our Vision & Strategic Priorities

Vision, Strategy & Delivery

Following extensive community consultation, the organisation published its 2050 Vision in 2025:

A thriving, resilient, and sustainable island community rooted in heritage, innovation, hospitality, and environmental stewardship.

This vision is supported by a 2030 Action Plan, which sets out five strategic priority areas:

  • Sustainable housing and infrastructure
  • Net zero and climate resilience
  • Community facilities and services
  • Island enterprise and tourism
  • Culture, heritage, and biodiversity

The organisation is now firmly in a delivery phase, transitioning from planning into implementation across a wide range of strategic initiatives. Current and emerging projects include:

  • Development of a Multipurpose Community Hub for services, enterprise, tourism, and social and cultural activity
  • native Irish tree planting programme to enhance biodiversity and climate resilience
  • Establishment of a Native Irish Honey Bee sanctuary supporting pollinators and ecological restoration
  • Ongoing harbour and infrastructure development planning to improve access and resilience
  • Expansion of renewable energy and climate action initiatives
  • Growth of sustainable tourism and island enterprise, aligned with island capacity and community benefit

These projects reflect a clear shift from strategy into delivery, with a strong focus on partnerships, implementation, and long-term outcomes.
