Lisa O’Toole grew up on Inishturk, and it has been the foundation for everything she has gone on to achieve in her life. Growing up on the island ingrains certain traits in you from a very young age: resilience, ambition, drive, and a strong sense of community. After leaving the island, Lisa went on to study Biotechnology at the University of Galway, before beginning her career in the medical device and pharmaceutical sector. In 2022, she moved to Switzerland, where she now works as a Quality Assurance Manager for a multi-billion-dollar company. No matter where life has taken her, she credits so much of her success to the upbringing Inishturk gave her. It may be a small island, but its potential truly knows no bounds.
Over the past few years, Lisa has been fortunate enough to travel extensively and experience some incredible places around the world, but there is still something so special about Inishturk. There really is no place like home. She has always been one of Inishturk’s biggest advocates and will continue to promote it proudly whenever she gets the chance.
Lisa joined the Community Council this year (2026) because she has a genuine interest in the future of the island and wants to see it continue to thrive, develop, and reach the potential she knows it has. Watching her own mother in her role as Development Officer for four years, and seeing all that she achieved, gave Lisa a real appreciation for the dedication and hard work involved in bringing projects to life on a small island. It’s not always easy, but the reward far outweighs the challenges. Seeing projects that are so important to Inishturk’s future come to life, and witnessing the positive impact they can have on the community, inspired her to get involved herself. Even if she can contribute in a small way, she wants to help sustain the future of Inishturk for generations to come, so that others can experience the same magic of the island that she is so proud to call home.
